Aaj Tak issued notice for telecasting Koli's confessions

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Aaj Tak TV channel has been issued a showcause notice for airing in camera confessions of Nithari killings accused Surinder Koli.

A senior official of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting told UNI that the notice was served on the channel for violating the programme code by telecasting footage of Koli's confessions in which he talked of eating human flesh and other things, which could have a negative effect on children.

The footages were telecast on September 14 in the evening when most of the children are watching TV, he said.

Moreover, it continued for two hours.

He said some NGOs had approched Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi for taking action against the channel.

The Nithari episode which came to light in December last year, sent shockwaves throughout the country for the brutal killings of young children and women.

The channel has been given 15 days to respond to the notice issued yesterday.
