Two corrupt revenue officials arrested for taking bribe

Srinagar, Sep 21 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) has caught red handed two revenue officials while accepting bribe in the central Kashmir district of Badgam.

A spokesman of the VO said Abdul Salam Dar, patwari Halqa Dharmbugh, Kralpora and his junior Altaf Ahmad Dar were arrested red-handed when they accepted bribe amounting to Rs 2000 and Rs 500 respectively for demarcation and issuance of extracts of revenue records to a person.

A complaint was received from Mushtaq Ahmad Wani that his brother-in-law Nissar Ahmad Rather is suffering from cancer and wanted to sell a piece of land for meeting the medical expenses for treatment, spokesman added.

Meanwhile, Mushtaq Ahmad applied for demarcation of 10 marlas of his land and issuance of extracts of revenue records to Patwari Halqa Dharambugh so that he was able to execute the sale deed.

However, the Patwari and his Junior demanded Rs 2000 and Rs 500 respectively for this purpose.

In the course of investigation, the officials of Vigilance proceeded to Kralpora, laid a successful trap during which both the officials were caught red handed accepting the bribe.

The money was recovered from their possession in presence of independent witnesses.

Both the officials were taken into custody for further Investigation, VO spokesman added.
