Two arrested for assaulting hospital staff

Bhubaneswar, Sep 21 (UNI) Police today arrested two persons and forwarded them to court on the charge of assaulting the staff and damaging hospital property following the death of a patient in the Capital hospital here.

According to police, one Radharani Khillar of Kapilang village under Ramachandrapur Police station was admitted to the hospital last night after she complained of stomach problem.

The attendants of the patients alleged that Radharani died due to the negligence of the hospital staff and assaulted them.

The attendants alleged that neither did the doctors nor the nurses attend to her even after the patient developed some complications though they requested them several times.

After the patient expired this morning the irate attendants assaulted the doctors and staff on duty and damaged some chair and table of the hospital.

After the incident the staff went on a strike, demanding adequate security to staff. However, the staff joined their duty this afternoon after the high officials of the health and Police department assured them to provide security.

Police registered a case and arrested two relatives of the patient after a complaint was lodged, police said.

Since Wednseday the doctors of the SCB Medical college and hospital, Cuttack, were on strike demanding adequate security after the attendants of patients assaulted the staff there and damaged the hospital property three days back.

They were also demanding the resigntion of the Hospital Superintendent.
