Kolkata, Sep 21 (UNI) Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Japan's Suzuki Motors, plans to jack up its share in the country's two-wheeler market to four per cent from one per cent by 2009-10.
The company also aims at a ten per cent market share in the scooter segment, which is now dominated by Bajaj Auto Ltd, Vice-President (sales and marketing) Atul Gupta today said.
The company, which forayed in the scooter section with the launch of its Access 125, would invest Rs.150 crore in this segment, he said.
"With the growing demand for mid-sized scooters and other two-wheelers, we are targeting a four per cent market share in this sector," he told reporters.
Mr.Gupta said the company, was targetting to sale 70,000 Access 125 scooters across the country over the next one year while plans were underway to introduce three new variants in the bike and scooter segment in the next two years.
The country's scooter market is now dominated by Honda Motorcyle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd.
In reply to a question, Mr.Gupta said the company, which started operations in 2005, was expecting break-even in the next two years.
