Samajwadi criticises Orissa women commission

Bhubaneswar, Sep 21 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party today criticised Orissa State Women Commission chairperson Namita Panda for advocating for rights of men.

Party's All India President Ranjana Bajpayee, who was here to attend the party's state women convention, told mediapersons that the SWC was advocating for rights of men instead of women and described it as a 'very sad state of affairs'.

Recently, Ms Panda in a workshop said she had received a number of complaints from men from being harassed by their wives and that the women were misuing the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act.

Expressing concern over the attrocities on women, the SP leader said only education and financial independence of women could bring an end to their woes.

UrgIing the state government to open women's college in each and every block, Ms Bajpayee also demanded to introduce 'Kanya Bidya Dhan' scheme in the state on the lines of the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and SP leader Mualayam Singh to educate women.

Ms Bajpayee demanded that women education should be made totally free and stipend be given for receiving technical education.

She also demanded the government to give interest free loans and provide vocational training to women for starting their own business.

Meanwhile the party women state convention criticised both the UPA government and BJP for the non-introduction of the Women reservation bill in parliament.

In a resolution passed at the convention the party also demanded for provision to issue NBW warrant against the people involved in dowry death cases, capital punishment to rapists and reservation for women in technical education, service and politics.
