Jaipur, Sep 21 (UNI) The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly was today adjourned sine die abruptly after witnessing uproarious scenes and three adjournments within two hours.
Prior to adjourning sine die, Speaker Sumitra Singh declared ''as cancelled'' the no confidence motion moved by the Opposition Congress against the Vasundhara Raje Government, in the absence of the Leader of the Opposition Ram Narain Chaudhary.
As the situation remained unchanged even after the third adjournment, the Speaker called the leader of the Opposition Mr Chaudhary to open the debate on the no confidence motion but he was not present.
Taking exception to his absence the Speaker cancelled the motion with the consent of the treasury benches.
In the din the House also passed, without discussion, the Rajasthan Police Bill 2007.
The brief monsoon session of the assembly had started on September 18 and since then it has passed half a dozen bills, including Rajasthan Private University Bill 2007, Rajasthan Public Trust (Amendment) Bill 2007, Rajasthan Societies(Amendment) Bill 2007, Rajasthan Panchayat Raj(Amendment) Bill 2007 and Rajasthan Monuments Preservation(Amendment) Bill 2007.
The four-day session was stormy. The second day's proceedings on Wednesday were marred by noisy scenes, scuffling among members, snatching of the papers from the Deputy Speaker, throwing of pen stands and other such items on each other and expulsion of four--three rebel BJP and one LJP--members.
A truce was worked out yesterday between the Treasury and the Opposition benches after condemnations and regrets by both sides, over the previous day's unruly behaviour. But today both the sides were again in a combatative mood.
