Mangaonkar topples 2nd seed Sinha to enter boys u-17 squash final

Mumbai, Sep 21 (UNI) City lad Mahesh Mangaonkar upset Pune's second seed Abhinav Sinha to reach the final of the boys u-17 Little Masters All India Junior Squash Tournament organised by the Willingdon Sports Club, at their squash courts, here today.

Mangaonkar was faced with stiff opposition from Sinha in the first game. He took some time to find his feet and lost the first game to the lad from Pune. From the second game onwards, it was smooth sailing for Mangaonkar, who cruised through to beat Sinha in four games 8-9, 9-0, 9-5, 9-1. Mangaonkar will meet top seed Karan Malik, who ousted homeboy Abhishek Pradhan 9-2, 9-4, 3-9, 9-1 in the other semi final.

Meanwhile, Saumya Karki will vie for two titles -- the girls under-15 and under-19.

Karki of Jindal Squash Academy was brutal in her semifinal game against Anju Sharma, also of the same academy. Saumya beat her with ease 9-3, 9-4, 9-4 to reach the girls under-15 final. She meets second seed Sachika Balwani who was far superior in her 9-3, 9-1, 9-0 win over Urvashi Joshi.

Karki will play Shivangi Paranjape in the girls under-19 finals.

Saumya beat Shaheen Madraswala 9-2, 9-5, 9-3 while Shivangi beat Sachika Balwani 9-4, 9-1, 9-0.
