Lucknow, Sep 21 (UNI) Former secretary of Bahujan Samaj Party founder president Kanshi Ram, Ambeth Rajan, is set to get elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in the October 1 byelection to fill the seat vacated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
Mr Rajan was the only candidate to file nominations today, the last date of filing papers, and he is set to get elected unopposed on a BSP ticket.
The bypoll was necessitated when the BSP national president resigned from the seat after her party won the recently-held assembly elections with a brute majority. Ms Mayawati then got elected to the Legislative Council unopposed.
The term of the seat vacated by Ms Mayawati would expire on July 4, 2010.
A resident of Gautam Buddha Nagar, Mr Rajan was once the secretary of Mr Kanshi Ram and was associated with him since 1984.
Before coming in contact with the late founder of BSP, Mr Rajan was a businessman.
He filed his nomination papers in three sets in the presence of state cabinet ministers Satish Chandra Mishra and Nasimuddin Siddique, amongst others.
Scrutiny of the papers will be done tomorrow and the last date of withdrawal of papers is September 24. After the withdrawal process is completed, he is set to be declared elected unopposed to the RS seat.
