Bangalore, Sep 21: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal(S) National President H D Deve Gowda today expressed confidence that his party will fare well in the September 28 elections to the 209 urban local bodies in the state.
Speaking to media after releasing party's manifesto, he said, "The commitment of the party for the welfare of poor, downtrodden and secularism has helped it take strong roots in the state".
Mr Gowda informed that the party, whether it was in power or not, had always fought for the cause of poor. When in power it implemented many innovative schemes including regularaisation of illegal construction of houses, distribution of rice at lowest price and release of more funds to the urban local bodies.
Stating that JD(S) was not a party of the rich, he said it always fought for safeguarding the interests of the poor, middle-class, and the working class. "I expect the party to win majority of local bodies, higher than that compared to Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress," Mr Gowda said.
