Bhopal, Sep 21: Road traffic in new Bhopal area went hayware as it was diverted in some areas for the three-day BJP national executive committee meeting, which got underway here today.
Vehicular movement around the state BJP office- venue of the meet- had been prohibited and diverted to other roads as part of tight security arrangements for the BJP bigwigs, including many provided with Z plus security.
Barring former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who is not attending the meet due to health reasons, all top leaders of BJP, including party chief Rajnath Singh and former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, are attending it.
The state party head office- Deendayal Parisar- had been specially decked up and airconditioned for the crucial meet, while the lake city had been decorated in a befitting manner with saffron flags fluttering along main roads and welcome arches erected at vantage points. Cut-outs of top BJP leaders were also seen at some places.
Tight security arrangements are in place at the meeting venue- named after party veteran Kushabhau Thakre- and different hotels where nearly 233 delegates are staying. At least 5 IPS officers and two dozen DSP level officers have been deputed for security.
Vehicular movement would be halted during the journey of Mr Advani through the city roads. He is scheduled to stay at a heritage hotel in the Shyamla Hill area.
Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements are being made for BJP public meeting at the police parade ground here tomorrow.
