World Chess: Anand crushes Grischuk to take the lead

Mexico City, Sep 21: Viswanathan Anand crushed Russian Alexander Grischuk to take the sole leadership after the seventh round in the World Chess Championship.

Top-ranked Anand, playing with white, started the proccedings with his pet e4 moves, inturn Grischuk replied with e5 and after the normal theoretical moves the game was fought on the Ruy Lopez closed variations lines.

Anand managed to misplace the Bg6 and created a nice support point on c4. By the 30th move it looked as if neither side can enforce a result and the game may drift towards a draw.

However, Anand played one of his best game and with his active white pieces, occupying all the important squares, drubbed Grischuk.

Anand, known for his fast game, created a huge 45 minutes gap in his favour while Grischuk struggled hopelessly to save the game.

After Rd1 and then immediately afterward d7 sealed Grischuk's fate. The 16th-ranked Russian Grandmaster finally surrendered on the on the 50th move. This was Anand's third big win in the championship.
