India set to be top sugar producer

to
the
International
Sugar
Organization
or
ISO,
India
is
expected
to
overtake
Brazil
as
the
world's
top
sugar
producer
in
2007/08.
London-based ISO forecast in its latest monthly report that India"s sugar output in 2007/08 will reach an all-time high of 33.15 million tones, up 8 per cent year-on-year. According to industry reports, India, which is also the world's top sugar consumer, has exported 1.5 million tones of white sugar since January 2007.
