Police bust gang of vehicle lifters in Kapurthala

Kapurthala, Sept 20 (UNI) Police today busted a gang of vehicle lifters and recovered a van with the arrest of five persons and also recovered one country made pistol and few cartidges besides lethal weapons from their possession.

SSP Rakesh Aggarwal told mediapersons here today that on a tip off, a police party raided an abondoned brick kiln and arrested the accused as they were planning to commit a robbery at a petrol pump and a liqour shop and also recovered a stolen van from them.

The SSP said, they had hired the van from Hoshiarpur for Kapurthala on September 15 to meet a travel agent and but they allegedly beat and threw the driver off near village Kanjali and sped away with the van.

The accused have been identified as Kulwant Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Charan Singh, Dalbir Singh and Lakhwinder Singh, the SSP said.

Police has registered a case against all the accused, he added.
