Only three entries from foreign country for ATF Jr tournament

Bangalore, Sept 20 (UNI) Only three entries, two from Pakistan and one from Vietnam, were received for Asian Tennis Federation Under 14 Junior Ranking Tounament being hosted by the City's premier club Bowring Institute from September 22 to 29.

Institute President Vasant Kumar told newsmen that lack of entries from other countries may be due to recently held similar tournament in Dhaka.

He said that more than 175 entries have been received for the tournament qualifying round of which would be held on September 22 and 23. The main draw begins on September 24.

Mr Kumar said that the Institute hosting the tournament after a gap of over 40 years. Tennis Tournament last held was Davis Cup Qualifier in 1965 when the then Mysore Maharaja distributed the prizes for the winners.

The main draw would consist of 32 entries. There would be 18 direct entries to the main draw for the Singles event for both Boys and Girls, Four qualifiers would enter the main draw, 10 wild cards each in Boys and Girls categories.

He said that the ATF is conducting over 15 such tournaments across Asia. The points earned in this tournament would help the players get due consideration in selection for training and tournaments in Australia.
