Chennai, Sep 20: Senior BJP leader L K Advani today said 'at no point of time'' had the previous NDA Government, of which the DMK was a constituent, agreed to the demolition of the controversial Ram Sethu or Adam's Bridge to construct the Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project (SSCP).
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Advani claimed that the NDA Government had agreed in principle to go ahead with the project as its ally--the DMK--, was keen on the execution.
''But at no point of time the NDA had agreed to break the 'Ram Sethu' whether it was man-made or natural.'' He also claimed that there was material evidence confirming the belief that 'Ram Sethu' was used by Lord Ram to reach Lanka.
''I have also read reports that till the 18th century, it was used. Only after that, it got buried under sea,'' Mr Advani added.
''But the affidavit of the Centre in the Supreme Court against Lord Ram and the bridge is shocking,'' he said.
Mr Advani also said when he came to know about the submission in the affidavit that Ramayana was just mythology and that there was no physical evidence that Lord Ram ever existed, he rang up Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
''But he was busy in a meeting with the Belgian Prime Minister: Still, I told the PMO that this was shocking and would have bad repurcussions nation-wide,'' Mr Advani averred.
