Pune, Sep 20 (UNI) Sports scribes from Marathi language newspapers ad channels have come together to form the ''Maharashtra Marathi Krida Patrakar Sangh'' here recently.
Mr Pralhad Sawant, who has the distinction of covering seven Olympics and a recepient of several awards, heads the ''Sangh''.
Speaking about one of the objectives of the ''Sangh'', Mr Sawant said,''Our endeavour will be to procure literature concerning sports. A lot of sports literature is available in English, but not enough in the regional languages.'' The first executive committee of the ''Sangh'', which has been registered with the Charity Commissioner, Pune, will meet in October to chalk out a detailed programme. The body will have a four-year term.
The ''Sangh'' proposes to host seminars, clinics, and interactions with top sportspersons from time to time, and also institute state awards, organise photography competitions and start a vernacular library.
The executive committee, elected for the first four-year term, is as follows: Pralhad Sawant (Pune) -- president, Madhav Shejul (Parbhani) -- vice president, Vinayak Dalvi (Loksatta, Mumbai) -- secretary general, and Naresh Shelke (Nagpur) -- treasurer.
The executive committee members are Avinash Joshi (Ekmat, Latur), Jayant Kulkarni (Saamna, Aurangabad), Sanjeev Khade (Tarun Bharat, Kolhapur), Milind Dhamdhere (Kesari, Pune), Mohan Bane (PTI photographer, Mumbai), Ravindra Kapre (Deshonnati, Amravati), Amar Kane (Zee TV, Mumbai) and Manisha Ghate (Ladies representative, Pune).
