Karnataka on winning spree on 2nd day in swimming nationals

Panaji, Sep 20 (UNI) Karnataka set the pool ablaze claiming six gold with two new meet records in swimming on the second day of the 5-day LIC 61st Senior National Aquatic Championship, now at Campal swimming pool here today.

Police bagged two gold (both with new records), while Raliways had to content with two gold both in high board diving men and women.

Karnataka's Rehan Poncha and Shikha Tandon set a new meet record in 400 metre individual men and 50 mt butterfly women event respectively.

Poncha improved his own record with a new timing of 04:33:59, erasing existing record of 04:38:55 set last year. Tandon set a new record with a timing of 00:29:41, eclipsing her team mate Subha C's record of 00:29:44 set in 2005.

Karnatka added four more gold to their kitty by Tandon in the 200 mt Freestyle (women) with a timing of 02:11:90, Aaron D'Souza in 200 mt Butterfly (Men) with a timing of 05:57: 07, 4x200 mt Free style (women) and 4x200 mt free style (men) relay.

Police set two new meet records -- one by Richa Mishra in 400 mt individual (women) event with a new timing of 05:04.84, erasing her own record with a timing of 05:07:13 set in 2006 and second by Arjun Muralidharan in the 50 mt buttrfly (men) event with a new timing of 00:25:76, crossing the last year's record of Veer Dhavan Khade of Maharastra with a timing of 00:26:10.

Hrutika Shriram of Railways claimed gold in high board (women) with 217.30 points and Tushar Gitaye in also high board (men) with 314.85 points.
