HC sends notice to Punjab Govt on Udham Singh memorial
Chandigarh, Sept 20 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices for January 16, 2008 to Punjab government and other respondent on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions for keeping open the memorial of martyr Udham Singh at Sunam and Fatehgarh Sahib throughout the year.
The PIL, heard by the Division Bench of Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Mahesh Grover submitted that at present the memorial was being opened only four times in a year -- on martyrdom day or birth anniversary of martyr Udham Singh, on August 15, the Independence Day and January 26, the Republic Day.
