Itanagar, Sep 20 (UNI) Overall growth and development of Arunachal Pradesh could be possible if gender budgeting of development plans is facilitated in the right direction.
State Women Commission chairperson Jarjum Ete in a State Planning Board meeting on Tuesday called upon leaders to look into the matters in a right perspective.
Besides, Ms Ete also stressed on gender mainstreaming of policies and schemes, gender analysis and audit of the development programmes. Citing the examples of UNDP, World Bank and Planning Commission, which have already identified themselves with gender concerns, she said Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) would remain merely dreams if importance is not given on the gender issues.
She also pointed out that the state was yet to introduce gender budgeting, which could have been done this fiscal by allocating funds for exposure, orientation and training of the leaders, planners and heads of departments.
Suggesting induction of woman representatives in SPB, Ms Ete thanked state Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu for inviting her as the women representative.
Even the SPB needs the presence and participation of capable women, she said adding that the house needed a formal restructuring for a better planning mechanism in the state.
She also advocated for appointment of a gender advisor, analyst and consultant in the planning department.
