Five nabbed while trying to sell tiger skin

Mysore, Sep 20 (UNI) Five persons were arrested in Gundlupet town in Chamarajanagar about 65 from here, while trying to sell the skin of a tiger which they had killed in the nearby Bandipur National Park just ten ago.

Bandipur forest range officer Devaraj told UNI that the arrested, who came in motor cycles, had killed the tiger in Desipura Forest Range in the park by trapping the big cat using sheep as bait. Later they killed the tiger, removed the skin and brought it to the town to sell it.

The five poachers were identified as Afsar, Mubarak, Aslam, Ghous and Bhima. They were caught red handed while the king pin of the gang identified as Madaiah made good the escape. Two motor cycles were seized, police said In a similar incident a tiger was trapped and killed in Nagarahole National Park in Kodagu district two weeks ago.
