Bhuj, Gujarat, Sep 20 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated three educational buildings, which have come up at a cost of Rs 73 crore here.
The buildings include Kranti Guru Shyamji Krishna Verma Kachch University, Government Engineering College and Polytechnique College at Bhuj, the district headquarter of Kachch.
''The 21st century is a knowledge-oriented century. In the past five years, eight new universities have been established in Gujarat.
The government is putting extra efforts in setting up technical colleges in the state. Seats for technical colleges have increased to three to four times in Gujarat,'' said Mr Modi at the inauguration function.
''In 2000, for technical education in 94 colleges of Gujarat, there were 13,000 seats. Today, there are 339 colleges for technical education and 51,000 seats,'' he added.
Of the three institutes, buildings of Government Engineering College and Polytechnique had collapsed during the 2001 earthquake, while Shyamji Krishna Verma Kachch University was operating in a rented building.
