9 get sentenced to life in Miyanpur massacre case

Aurangabad, Sep 20 (UNI) A local court today awarded life imprisonment to nine accused in the Miyanpur massacre case.

District and sessions judge Krishan Kant Tripathi also slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on each of the convicts. The court exonerated two others for want of proof.

Those convicted include Avinash Chandra, Nand Kumar Sharma, Rajendra Sharma, Pramod Sharma, Brajmohan Sharma, Ram Lal Sharma, Lakshmi Sharma and Gopal Sharma.

They were activists of the banned Ranveer Sena and had killed 34 people and injured several others at Miyanpur village under Uphara police station area in Aurangabad district on June 16, 2000.

The Miyanpur massacre was said to have been engineered in retaliation to the Senari killings in which Maoists had beheaded 34 people in 1999.
