Swati advances to quarters in girls u-19 squash meet

Mumbai, Sep 19 (UNI) Indore's Swati Muchhal scored a straight games victory over Mumbai's Anissa Malhotra 9-3, 9-1, 9-1 in the girls under-19 age group to book a place in the quarter-finals of the Little Masters All India Junior Squash Tournament, 2007, at the Willingdon Sports Club squash courts, here today.

Swati will meet Mumbai's Sachika Balwani in the last eight.

Sachika got walkover in the pre-quarter finals. In the other pre-quarter final match, Shaheda Madraswala defeated Tanya Arora in three straight games 9-1, 9-0, 9-0.

Swati was in complete control over her opponent Anissa Malhotra.

Anissa barely looked like she was in the game as Swati eased away to a comfortable 9-3, 9-1, 9-1 win.

In the boys u-19 first round matches the highlight was a game between two brothers, Yogesh and Mahesh Merchant. Yogesh got the better of Mahesh after a close first game that went to the wire.

Yogesh beat Mahesh 10-8, 9-2, 9-0.

Fourth seed Caran Arora beat Jindal Squash Academy's Shashi Pandey in five close games 9-4, 7-9, 5-9, 9-0, 9-4 to reach the pre-quarter-finals of the boys u-15 category.

In the boys and Girls u-9 category, young gun from Willingdon Sports Club Jahangir Khambatia beat Daresh Gandhi in marathon five game 4-9, 9-4, 10-9, 2-9, 9-7 to reach the second round.
