RJD leader shot dead in the state capital

Patna, Sep 19 (UNI) Unidentified gunmen shot dead RJD leader Pappu Khan at Haroon Nagar locality in Phulwarisharif here yesterday, police said today.

Senior Police Superintendent Kundan Krishnan here said the criminals opened fire at Khan, while he was out with his wife, son and brother-in-law.

Khan was rushed to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Police recovered a motorcycle from the site of the incident.

Mr Krishnan said a gang rivalry was suspected behind the killing of the RJD leader. However, investigation was on to ascertain the real cause.

Several RJD activists and supporters of Khan staged a protest against the killing of their leader and pelted stones at the police in the area.

Khan had unsuccessfully contested the last assembly election from the Nathnagar assembly constituency in Bhagalpur.

Police said Khan had criminal antecedents as several cases related to kidnapping and extortions were pending against him.
