Punjab Cabinet approves Adarsh School Scheme

Chandigarh, Sep 19 (UNI) The Punjab government today gave clearance to the ambitious Adarsh School Scheme to be launched in the state on September 28, the birth centenary of Sheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet held here this evening under the chairmansip of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

This scheme, aimed at providing quality education to ''the intelligent poor'' from the rural areas, would involve the setting up of at least one Adarsh School in every block. These school would run in Public Private Participation ( PPP ) mode.

Leading industrial and business houses in the country have already joined hands with the state government for the venture.

There is a special provision for reservation for girl students in the schools in which the state and the private sector players would bear the total expenses on fees, uniform, books and other requirements of the students. The entire scheme would be implemented through the Punjab State Education Development Board, specially set up for the purpose.
