Municipal councillors strike work against attack on DMK woman
Puducherry, Sep 19 (UNI) Puducherry municipal councillors today boycotted work in protest against the alleged attack on DMK woman councillor Aanandalakshmi here yesterday.
The councillors, who assembled in front of the municipal office this morning, shouted slogans and prevented the municipality employees from entering the office.
Meanwhile, police registered cases against both the DMK and AIADMK cadre in connection with yesterday's attack on Mrs Aanandalakshmi. Cases were registered under five sections against six AIADMK workers on a complaint from Mrs Aanandalakshmi. Six people were arrested and released on conditional bail.
Cases under two sections were registered against four people, including Mrs Aanandalakshmi, her father-in-law and brother-in-law, on a complaint from an AIADMK supporter Kala.
It may be noted that after an altercation with AIADMK workers, Mrs Aanandalakshmi, who went to her house, ran to the street with an injury on her left arm and alleged that she was attacked by AIADMK workers.
However, the AIADMK Nellithoppe constituency Legislator claimed that Mrs Aanandalakshmi herself had inflicted the injury to put the blame on the AIADMK workers, at the instigation of DMK Convenor R V Janakiraman.
