Coimbatore, Sep 19: Thousands of MDMK workers, along with party general secretary Vaiko, were arrested today when they obstructed the movement of trains at Pollachi junction in the district in protest against the inclusion of Pollachi and Kinathukidavu in the Palakkad railway division.
Three passenger trains--Pothanur-Pollachi, Dindigul-Palakkad and Dindigul-Pollachi-- were detained for more than an hour following the 'rail roko' stir by the MDMK amid torrential rain.
Earlier, while addressing the protesters gathered at the Thiruvalluvar Thidal, Mr Vaiko alleged that the MPs from Tamil Nadu would not have conceded to the compromise formula at a meeting in New Delhi without the consent of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
Stating that Dr Krishnan, the MP representating Pollachi, was not invited for the meeting convened by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad as he belonged to MDMK, Mr Vaiko regretted that the rights of Tamil Nadu were being exploited for the benefit of Kerala.
The MDMK would organise a protest rally in Pollachi on October five urging the Centre to drop the move.
