New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the MCD Vijender Gupta today directed Municipal Commissioner A K Nigam that the list of 150 roads and streets surveyed by the corporation in May as commercial and mixed land use streets be placed before the committee immediately for initiating the process of their notification by the Delhi Government.
The direction was given to the commissioner in a meeting of the Standing Committee held here.
Mr Gupta said the recommendation would be routed through the MCD and the issue would be taken up and approved in its next meeting thereafter. He said besides the already notified roads and streets, there were still many which had been surveyed but not placed before the Standing Committee for notification, as such under the liberalised provisions of the 2021 Delhi Master Plan.
The Chairman said the Standing Committee further resolved that the MCD should not undertake sealing on the aforesaid roads so as to further implement the proposed notification in letter and spirit.
Mr Gupta informed that the Delhi Government had already notified 2538 roads as commercial and mixed land use streets. The zonal authorities had already undertaken basic survey.
He clarified that there was no restriction in the Master Plan 2021 or the Supreme Court judgements to notify these streets as commercial and mixed land use streets.
Earlier, proceedings of the House were disrupted with Congress members protesting the attack on a Congress councillor in a meeting in Shahdara Zone recently.
They also protested sending of a notice for recovery of property tax to the Akshardham temple authorities.
Initially, the House was adjourned for ten minutes over the issue.
However, since the noisy scenes prevailed after the reassembling of the House, the Chairman of the committee adjourned it for the day.
