Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 19 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today told the State Assembly that the government had tightened vigil along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border following information that Maoists and Sri Lankan terrorists were present in Idukki district.

In a written reply, to Mr K Sivadasan Nair (Cong) he said they it also had information that Maoist leader Sunderamurthy, who was arrested by the Tamil Nadu police, had visited Idukki district and stayed in Nedumkandam, Santhapara and Parathode areas in the district before his arrest in July last.

Mr Balakrishnan said that based on the reports of the visit of the Maoists, having links with Sri Lankan terrorist groups, to Idukki district, the government had asked the police to step up vigil in all check posts in Idukki district, bordering Tamil Nadu, from where he visited the state.

The police had taken into custody one Sadaratinam, a native of Vavunia in Sri Lanka, from Nedumkandam in Idukki district last month for not carrying sufficient travel documents, he added.
