Cong condemns attack on Karunanidhi's daughter, Selvi
New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) The Congress today condemned the attack on the house of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's daughter Selvi reportedly by VHP activists in Bangalore last night.
Such acts of violence against a person, who was not even in politics, on the Setusamudram ship canal issue should be put down with an iron hand, party spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan told reporters.
The Congress was calling upon the Karnataka government to provide adequate security to Ms Selvi, she said.
Suspected Sangh Parivar activists pelted stones and hurled petrol bombs, apparently angered by her father's remarks on Lord Rama.
Police said a 15-member group raising slogans against Mr Karunanidhi for his remarks on Lord Ram, damaged window panes of the house located in the posh JP Nagar area of the city. The ornamental lights in the house were also broken.
Ms Selvi, who was the chief of the SUN TV Group's Udaya TV Channel, and her husband Selvam, were out-of-station when the incident happened.
Later, a handwritten poster threatening Mr Karunanidhi and Union Shipping Minister T R Baalu with dire consequences was pasted on the house.
The lone security guard, Gopal Krishna, managed to escape from the scene of the crime.
