Kolkata, Sep 19 (UNI) The West Bengal Pradesh Congress today asked the ruling Left front whether it had informed the Centre that the setting up of a chemical hub at Nandigram had been cancelled.
Talking to newspersons, PCC working president Pradip Bhattacharjee said the state government had taken a decision at the all-party meeting that the proposed Petroleum and Chemical Petrochemical Investment Region(PCPIR) would be set up at Nayachar of East Midnapore.
" Earlier, we have told the state government that at the time of land acquisition, the farmers and bargadars' interest should be kept well protected and from that point of view Nayachar might seem to be a suitable place, if Geological Survey of India and Department of Environment give their green signal to go ahead, " he said.
The state government had not even informed the Centre that it was searching for a new place for the proposed hub, Mr P Bhattacharjee said.
" We were appreciating the decision of participation of Indian Oil Corporation at the proposed PCPIR in West Bengal and if any other investment for PCPIR is required in addition to the IOC, Public Sectors should be primarly welcomed, " he added.
