Rae Bareli, Sept 19: A district court hearing the Babri Masjid demolition case against senior BJP leaders L K Advani, M M Joshi and six others, will today pronounce its order on applications moved by a VHP leader and two others on whether they could be tried by the same court.
The applications were filed by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ram Vilas Vedanti and two more persons, against whom trial in connection with the cases are pending in a court in Lucknow.
They have sought the transfer of their cases to the district court here so that they can be tried along with Advani.
Former BJP President L K Advani, former Union Ministers M M Joshi and Uma Bharti, BJP General Secretary Vinay Katiyar, Senior VHP leaders Ashok Singhal, Acharya Giriraj Kishore and Vishnu Hari Dalmiya and Sadhvi Ritambhara are the eight accused facing trial in the matter.
The demolition of the 16th century mosque in Ayodhya on Dec 6, 1992, had triggered nationwide communal frenzy that took a heavy toll of human lives. The ramifications of that movement are still being felt. Advani is among those accused of inciting communal passions by making inflammatory statements.
After razing the Babri mosque, Hindu activists put up a makeshift temple at the site that they contend is the birthplace of Hindu god Ram.
