Kohima, Sep 19 (UNI) Four legislators of the Nagaland Peoples' Front (NPF) have resigned while Independent legislator Khutovi withdrew support to the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), official sources here today said.

The sources said Kewekhape Therie, Z Obed, Vatsu Meru and N Yeangphong tendered their resignation yesterday to Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie.

'' We have understood that there is no value in continuing support to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, thereby being a party to persecution of our own people,'' the legislators said.

The legislators also alleged that the DAN government had failed to check the rampant corruption.

The legislators, who were already suspended from the NPF, said, ''We can not withstand anymore the way the people are ill-treated by the present government.'' Meanwhile, Independent legislator Khutovi from Suruhoto constituency under Zunheboto district, withdrew support to the DAN coalition.

He said prior to this he had discussed the issue with Congress leaders, who consented to accept him in the party.

This is the first jolt to the ruling DAN coalition just before the Assembly election, scheduled in the beginning of next year.

At present, in the 60-member Assembly NPF has 28 legislators after four resigned, BJP (five), JD (U) (two), Independent (four) and Congress (17).
