Two dead, 6 injured in a cultural programme

Sambalpur, Sep 18 (UNI) Two youths were killed and six injured when a pandal erected for a cultural programme came in contact with a livewire in a remote village in Baragarh district.

Police said the accident took place yesterday in Barhaguda, a remote village under Bargarh district, about 50 km from here, where the local youths were organising a cultural festival on the eve of Sri Ganesh puja and Nuakhai.

The villagers were organising opera for the first time in their own village when the pandal came in contact with a livewire. The villagers had drawn the electricity from pole without permission.

Two youths, identified as Saudagar Meher and Raj Kumar Rana, died on the spot, while six other injured were admitted to the hospital.

Police later sent the bodies for post-mortem and booked a case against the organisers.
