MOSCOW, Sep 18 (Reuters) Russia is concerned about reports that military action against Iran is seriously being considered, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today at a news briefing with his French counterpart.
''We are worried by reports that there is serious consideration being given to military action in Iran,'' he said.
''That is a threat to a region where there are already grave problems in Iraq and Afghanistan.'' Lavrov's remarks came after French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said France must prepare for the possibility of war with Iran, although he said it was not an immediate danger.
The United States and others suspect Iran wants to develop a nuclear weapon under cover of its civilian nuclear programme.
Iran denies this. Washington says it is seeking a diplomatic solution but has not ruled out using force.
