Amethi, Sultanpur, Sep 18 (UNI) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today laid the foundation for five link roads project worth Rs 8 crore in his parliamentary constituency Amethi.
Clad in his quintessential white kurta-pyjama, Rahul attended several party programmes on the first day of his three-day visit amid simmering heat.
The young MP laid the foundation stone of Rs 8 crore link roads under the Pradhan Mantri Sadak Yojna, which includes Faizabad-Rae Bareli, National Highway (56)-Mohhabatpur and Lalanganj-Islamganj roads.
Later, Rahul reached the Shukul Bazar Block and heard the grievances of people led by Congress Women Cell president Vijay Laxmi Shukla.
It had been brought to his notice that the constinuency at present is faced with an acute water crisis, owing to which, people were forced to drink impure well water.
Rahul also inspected Mother Dairy at Thakurganj Indaria and held discussion with its managing directer regarding the unit's expansion.
Later, the Congress leader visited Pratap Narayan Memorial Rajiv Gandhi Inter College and discussed problems of the students. He assured a computer lab in the faculty soon.
He also discussed the Gram Congress Pilot Project with the party workers and block heads in Thaura area. The project is initially being started in Amethi to win youth attention.
According to party sources, the project would be implemented across UP, if it is a success in Amethi.
The young leader also inaugurated a bar association building at Musafirkhana and unveiled an idol of A H Inter College founder Pt Ram Narayan Mishra.
Earlier addressing advocates, he exhorted them to discharge their duty with full determination.
Rahul further claimed the Mother Dairy Project had met employment demands of 20,000 families of Amethi.
Tomorrow, he would assess the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and attend party meeting in Bhadhar, Jagdishpur, Jamo, Deh and Bahadurpur.
