Police 'lathicharges' agitating mob; 28 wounded
Ballia, Sep 18 (UNI) At least 28 persons were wounded, including 10 policemen, were injured when police care charged and lobbed teargas shells to disperse an agitating mob protesting the shifting of a bank from Narhi area here.
People had blocked National Highway No 19 to protest displacement of a Central Bank branch from Sohanv village to Bharauli village about a month days back, Superintendent of Police Amitabh Thakur said.
Administrative officials reached the spot and tried to pacify the people, but the furious mob started pelting stones on the police, he said.
So far 41 arrests had been made.
Police is maintaining strict vigil and situation was said to be under control.
