Bhopal, Sep 18 (UNI) Opposing the proposed merger of seven subsidiary banks with the State Bank of India, employees of the affected banks today staged a demonstration in front of the divisional office of the State Bank of Indore here.

The agitation was in response to a call given by the All India State Bank of Indore Employees Coordination Committee (AISBIECC) and the All India State Bank of Indore Officers Coordination Committee (AISBIOCC).

AISBIECC general secretary J P Janwar said merger of banks, which provided services in accordance with cultural and social atmosphere of a particular region, would destroy social banking.

He said a nationwide strike would be called on September 27 to protest the proposed merger.

A proposal was passed on August 25 regarding merging subsidiary banks with the SBI.
