DMK councillor attacked

Puducherry, Sep 18 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Nellithoppe constituency here today as the DMK workers resorted to road blockades at different places following an alleged attack on a party woman councillor by AIADMK supporters.

According to police, the DMK woman councillor Aanandalakshmi had an altercation with a few AIADMK workers over removal of garbage from Nellithoppe. Police pacified the workers and sent Aanandalakshmi home.

However, after some time, she came to the street with a wound on her left hand and was rushed to the government general hospital, police said.

Following the incident, DMK workers put up road blockades before the Collectorate at Saram. DMK State Convenor R V Janakiraman, along with workers of alliance parties including Congress, put up a road blockade at the Raja Theatre junction.

The AIADMK workers also staged a counter road-rokho on the Lenin street, alleging that the whole episode was stage managed.

Police intervened and forced both party men to call off their stir.

Meanwhile, Aanandalakshmi alleged that she could identity the five supporters of nellichoppe legislator who attacked here.
