Patna, Sep 18 (UNI) An organisation of forward classes, 'S-4', today demanded from the Nitish Kumar government constitution of a commission on the pattern of Rajasthan, to ascertain the economically backward among the upper castes in Bihar.
''Owing to the existing reservation policy, the poor among the forward classes are the worst sufferers as their condition had deteriorated alarmingly during the reservation era,'' convener of S-4 Sanjay Verma said here.
The criteria for reservation should be amended to ensure improvement in their condition as well, he added.
He welcomed the constitution of a commission headed by retired judge Shashikant Sharma to identify the economically backward among the upper castes in Rajasthan and said the Nitish Kumar government should also take urgent steps to provide reservation facilities to the economically backward of the upper caste.
Mr Verma said about 90 per cent of the upper caste were economically backward and were forced to lead a life worse than that of dalits. In such circumstances this section needs immediate reservation, he added.
