Babubhai Panocha sets new record

Bhopal, Sep 18 (UNI) Babubhai Panocha from Gujarat today created a new national record for Men's 20,000 M Walk clocking 1::25:09:36 sec, erasing the previous mark of 1::25:21:70 sec set by Gurudev Singh seven years ago.

Kerala's P L Jalan and Madhya Pradesh's Sumendra Singh finished second and third clocking 1::27:14:6 and 1::30:49:53 respectively.

Kerala bagged four gold, four silver and one bronze to lead the table followed by Jharkand with three gold, three silver and three bronze. Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and New Delhi notched one gold medal each.

About 600 sportspersons are taking part in the event for 132 medals.

Uttar Pradesh girl Kranti Morya emerged winner in the 100 m Hurdles followed by J J Shobha (Andhra Pradesh) and Poonam Boijana (Karnataka).

V S Sureka (Tamil Nadu) clinched the gold in the women's pole vault followed by Chetna Solanki and N Madhusini Devi (Jharkhand).

Jharkhand's Amarjeet Singh won the men's triple jump pushing Ranjeet Maheshwari (Kerala) and Saurabh Singh (Uttar Pradesh).

Delhi's Poonam Tomar won in women's 100 m race, while Haryana's Alpesh Kumari came first in discus throw.

Kerala's Arunjeet S emerged winner in men's 100 m race, while Sojesh Joseph came first in 800 m race.
