Withdrawal of Ramsethu affidavit in toto a ''communal act'':Brinda
Jaipur, Sep 17 (UNI) The CPM today alleged that the UPA government at the Centre had ''surrendered'' to the communal forces by withdrawing in toto the ''controversial'' Ramsethu affidavit from the Supreme Court.
CPI(M) Polit bureau member and Rajya Sabha MP Brinda Karat alleged that the UPA government's decision to withdraw the affidavit in toto was uncalled for and was playing into the hands of the communal forces.
Ms Karat, who was here to attend a seminar on the Indo-US nuclear deal, said the affidavit needlessly dragged a Hindu God (without naming Ram) and when the faux pas was realised, the government did the right thing by removing the ''extraneous references'' in three paragraphs.
''However by withdrawing the affidavit in toto, the UPA government has left the fate of the very project in doubt,'' she said, adding the UPA government's decision was smacked of 'communalism''.
