Kozhikode, Sep 17 (UNI) As part of its major IT initiative, the public sector Union Bank of India (UBI) proposed to bring all its branches under Core Banking Solutions Network by the end of financial year 2008.
Talking to newspersons here today, Chairman and Managing Director M V Nair said at present 1119 branches and extension counters were under the core banking network.
Mr Nair said the bank, which had opened a record 125 new branches in 2006-07, planned 150 more in the current fiscal.
The CMD said aimed at providing hassle-free service to its customers, the UBI would impart re-orientation training for 5500 front-line staff in the country.
Some of the other schemes on the cards were providing educational loan online and Super salary account for salaried employees of Corporates or any firm with at least 15 workers on their pay rolls.
The facility for online service would be announced soon, he added.
In Kerala, the UBI had applied for license to open 17 new branches, out of which nine would be under the Kozhikode region, he said adding with this the bank would have a total of 167 branches in the State.
Later, Mr Nair inaugurated a regional office of the bank in the city.
