Bangalore, Sep 17: Senior Congress leader Janardhana Poojary today said the 'controversial' Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project (SSCP), now opposed by the BJP and Sangh Pariwar, was conceived by the BJP-led NDA government in 2001.
Talking to newspersons here, he accused the BJP of adopting double standards in the 'Ram Sethu' issue.
The BJP, which conceptualised the project, was now resorting to countrywide agitation against the UPA government.
''BJP and Sangh Pariwar are trying to stir religious sentiments of the Hindus on the issue. Action should be taken against the four Union Ministers, who had pushed for the project, in the Vajpayee government, '' Mr Poojary alleged.
On the 'controversial' affidavit filed by the Centre on the 'Ram Sethu' issue, he said the Centre should conduct an inquiry into the whole affair to find the actual persons, responsible for committing such a 'blunder'.
''The BJP is trying to derive political mileage out of the issue'' he said.
Referring to doubts surrounding the transfer of power in Karnataka, Mr Poojary said the Congress, in any way, was not ready to entertain the JD(S) in forming a government.
''Congress has no stake whether JD(S) effects the transfer of power to BJP or not. Our party is ready to face any elections,'' he said.
