Bangalore, Sep 17 (UNI) Coalition government partner BJP in Karnakata today said it will contest 4,400 seats in the urban local bodies elections of September 28, on its own.
Announcing this at a press conference here, BJP state unit President D Sadananda Gowda said it was contemplating associating with some pro-Kannada organisations in Belgaum in the elections.
Elections would be held for 4,998 wards in 208 urban local bodies.
Expressing confidence that the party would win at least 50 per cent of the seats, Mr Gowda said the BJP's main rival was the Congress as its attitude towards the people would help the party to fare well.
Party senior leader Yaswant Sinha would inaugurate the campaign on September 19. Three teams would be formed for electioneering.
The party would not bother about the proposed transfer of power from the JD(S) on October three, till the civic polls were over.
He, however, indicated that the party was ready to face assembly elections.
