Army dedicates road to people in North Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 17: Besides engaged in counter-insurgency operations and undertaking other civic works, the Army in Kashmir has now started reconstruction of infrastructure damaged during the turmoil years.

A defence ministry spokesman said a newly constructed road from Delina to Uplona was handed over to local villagers.

The 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) under the aegis of 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles has constructed the 6.2 km road stretch as part of Border Area Development Project (BADP) fund.

People of about half a dozen villages would benefit from the road.

The road passes through village Singhpura where famous Gurudwara of the sixth Guru of Sikhs, Shri Guru Har Govind Singh, is Located, he said.

The road has been named by locals as Guru Har Govind Singh Marg.

The Army has reconstructed damaged school buildings, provided computers and other equipments to students in far flung and remote areas in the valley.

It has also organised a number of cricket and football tournaments in different parts of the valley to encourage youths to participate in sports.
