UNICEF comes in for assistance to flood victims

Patna, Sep 16 (UNI) The UNICEF had been assisting the state government to ensure availability of drinking water, essential drugs besides other relief materials in flood ravaged areas of Bihar.

An UNICEF release here today stated that it had positioned emergency items, including plastic sheets, oral rehydration salts halozone tablets for water purification, to 40,000 families spread over 1,000 villages in seven districts of flood affected north Bihar.

Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur and Khagaria didtricts were the worst hit districts.

UNICEF had offerred relief materials to District Magistrates, Civil Surgeons and NGOs in 13 flood affected districts to cope with the flood fury.

It also supplied Leaflets on ORS halozone tablets and other medicines to ensure its correct usage.

The organisation had also provided the human resource support by positioning district coordinators in the affected areas to monitor the health camp.
