Tripura govt felicitates S D Burman's wife
Agartala, Sep 16 (UNI) The Tripura government felicitated music maestro Sachin Dev Burman's wife, Meera Devi at her daughter-in-law, Asha Bhosle's residence in Mumbai yesterday.
Tripura Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Anil Sarkar honoured Meera Devi with a traditional 'uttoriyo' along with a cheque of Rs one lakh.
The 94-year-old widow of the famous music director had been languishing at an, an old-age home for the rehabilitation of paraplegics in Navi Mumbai's Vashi area.
''The programme was a part of the 101st birth anniversary of S D Burman,'' Mr Sarkar said.
Born in Tripura's royal family, S D Burman had composed several songs for the Mumbai and Bengal film industry along with a number of songs in the films of his home state.
The Tripura cultural department had released a music cassette of the legendary music composer with his best 20 compilations of Bengali and Kokborak (Tripura's tribal language).
He also said the state government would set up a music university in the capital city named after the music legend.
