MOSCOW, Sep 16 (Reuters) A Russian helicopter has crashed in the Far East killing six people, emergency ministry officials said today after finding the burnt-out remains of the aircraft, Russian state television said.

Emergency services today found the Mi-8 helicopter in a remote part of Russia's Magadan region, the Vesti-24 state television news channel said. The helicopter went missing yesterday.

One seriously injured person with severe burns survived the crash and made it onto higher ground where he was found by rescuers. Vesti said the survivor was a member of the crew. Two Polish tourists were also on board.

Mi-8 is a workhorse of Russian transport aviation and is also widely used by the armed forces, especially in the wilds of Siberia and the Far East.

Many of the ageing helicopters have been involved in crashes in recent years.
