Chandigarh, Sep 16 (UNI) The Punjab government has sought the opinion of senior police officers on the role of the media in contingency situation.
This is in response to the circular of the Union Home Ministry, seeking the viewpoints of the state governments on indiscriminate sting operations conducted by some organisations. The ministry through the state government had sought comments of all state DGPs over the issue.
The Punjab DGP in this respect through a communication to all the DIGs and SSPs has asked for their comments with immediate effect regarding framing guidelines and setting up of a mechanism, to check growing incidents of '' lawlessness and the role of the media in such crisis where damage, destruction of property and loss of life or injuries occured''.
Official sources said here today that this exercise by the Union Home Ministry is a follow up of the issues which had been raised in the preliminary meeting of the committee appointed by the ministry under the chairmanship of Mr F S Nariman, senior advocate of the Supreme Court to examine the measure of damages, the modalities for imposition of damage and the role of media in cases where there is destruction or damage to properties and loss of life or injuries to persons.
